PREPARING FOR COLLEGE AND CAREER: THINGS TO DO

Junior Year-Planning Calendar

  • Check your classes on your 4-year plan and modify as needed.
  • Make sure your fall and spring schedules of classes include career/college/major admission requirements.
  • Work on your grades and seek help when needed.
  • Visit more schools and colleges and attend College Fairs.
  • Contact your Congressional Representative to apply for a military academy.
  • Sign up for the PSAT in October.
  • Review PSAT scores in December and find teachers or tutors to help you improve in weak areas.
  • Decide which Advanced Placement test you will take in March and register for spring ACT or SAT test for practice.
  • Meet with your school counselor in the spring to check graduation requirements and enroll in your senior year classes, including Advanced Placement classes and/or ROP.
  • Take Advanced Placement Tests in May.
  • Continue your extracurricular activities, sports, and volunteer work.
  • Discuss financing your future with your family and begin planning.
  • Investigate financial aid from Federal, State, and private sources.
  • Begin writing to colleges and schools for application forms and information in June.
  • In the summer, take a college class, volunteer for community service, or work.
  • Update your portfolio for a job or college application.
